Dear Reader

My goals for the semester were to get a 90 or above in most of my classes. I believe in some of my classes, I was very close to achieve those goals, and I was able to achieve those goals for the other classes. A struggle that I have encountered was at first adjusting from a high school to a college. I’ve gotten used to it after a few weeks I’ve been in Hunter College. The classes I took this past semester were English, History, Pre-Calculus, and Geography. I’ve done well in my classes this semester and I feel like this past semester was my best semester compared to past high school grades.  In one year, I expect to be in college and figuring out what major I want to get in the future. Five years from now, I see myself finished with a bachelor’s degree, and either going to graduate school or having a successful career, or both, if possible. In ten years, I see myself getting ready to settle down with a successful career. As a writer, I feel like I have a creative mind, depending on what type of mood I’m in or what type of day it is. I do think that people and I need to be successful writers in life because it would benefit anybody especially those who aren’t that good at writing and they would learn what to do and not to do in writing. My development of engaging a reader and expressing learning lessons within my writing can benefit the reader and myself as I would know what to do if subject other than English was to ask me to write a journal or an essay on a specific topic such as rocks. I’ve learned that I can’t think that I’m making the best piece of fiction or I will sound arrogant and the story will sound forced.  Journal #7 was enjoyable to me because thinking of a situation between two people using subtext was fun, creative, and stimulating. Concepts that are easy to me are in media res and writing in subtext. Concepts that are difficult to me are writing in prose rhythm and trying to not make a short story into a long story. While I’m writing a story, there are more details that I want put in the story just to make the story seem more legitimate. I plan on improving my skills by just continuing to write and practicing prose rhythm and how to limit my details in a short story. By the end of the year, I hope to have a different mindset of fiction writing and use the skills that I have learned in order to be a successful fiction writer. Being part of this pre-college program, I now know the expectations of college life and I hope to get used to it next year. This portfolio represents me as a student that has shown their growth as a writer from the beginning to the end of this year; as a person, it shows how creative I am and what type of mindset that I’m in whenever I post something.
