Knick Knack Paddy Jack- 3rd Draft

Anticipating for an e-mail or a phone call for a managerial job, John kept pacing up and down in his living room, with raindrops on his forehead landing on the floor. All his life he has been the one trying to provide for his family especially since he was raised without a father. His wife, Janice tried calming him down with massages from his neck to his back due to his stress.
“When is this e-mail or phone call going to come?!” John anxiously said.
“You just have to be patient,” replied Janice, “good things happen to people who are patient. I know it’s been hard searching for a job ever since your boss laid you off, but no matter what, I’m always going to support you.”
John grinned back at her as a reply of a thank you. His five-year-old son, Jack IV, came to the room wanting to play with his father. As much as he wanted play with his son, he told him to go to his room with his mother. It wasn’t a coincidence to John on why he named his son Jack IV, but as his son was walking up to his room, he couldn’t help but think about how he wanted try to contact his father. Despite wanting to contact his father, he had to focus on the phone call or the e-mail, he was never any good at multitasking, and it is genetic.
The phone rang; John let the phone ring three times just so he would not show any anxiousness. As he picked up the phone, he almost forgot to use his words to speak, and was speechless for ten seconds until Janice slapped him to reality.
“Thanks” John told Janice. Janice was silently mouthing at him to speak on the phone. “Oh yeah, I’m sorry for the delay, may I know who’s speaking?”
“My name is Jack Felix Prometheus the third, may I speak with Jonathan Isaacs?” said the man, whose deep voice intimidated John.
            “John is speaking.”
“Well I’m the boss of the MICROSTEEL Company, and as I went through your
résumé, I have to say I’m pretty impressed on how you lived your life.”
“Thank you sir, what were some things that impressed you?” asked John who just realized that he maybe is moving to fast with his future possible boss.
In a trembling voice Jack the third said, “the fact that you were a manager in the ‘Trinkets R’ We’ store, it just makes me proud and I’m looking forward to working with you in the future.”
John could not help but notice Jack the third’s voice and took a deep breath of relief. “Thank you very much sir. Are you ok?”
“Yeah, I’m ok, I’m just humbled to know that I’m going to work with you in the future, I can’t wait.”
John could feel the irony in the air from what Jack the third just said. With an eyebrow raised and with both arms crossed, John could not help but feel like this guy was up to something. “Why thank you again sir I’m flattered. Not to seem rude, have we met before?”
Jack the third’s heart was beating so fast that John could hear his pulse on the phone. Hesitating to answer his question, Jack the third was also left speechless for ten seconds.
“Hello?” John said, “I think he hung up on me,” he told Janice.
“No no, I’m still here,” Jack the third replied, “to answer your question we have never met each other, but I do think it’s important that we do meet.”
“Ok,” replied John as he didn’t want to believe what his gut was telling him, “do we need to meet for an in person interview?”
“Yes we should meet on a business and a personal level, son.”
Confusion, happiness, anger, excitement, betrayal, and shock were everything that John was feeling at the moment. The eyebrow on his face was raised of confusion; the smile on his face was half of happiness; the eyebrow on his face was raised of confusion; the veins on his forehead were big of anger; the pupils in his eyes would twinkle of excitement; the eyes on his face would squint of betrayal; and the sole of his foot would tap repeatedly on the floor. Janice noticed the expressions on the John’s face and couldn’t help but feel sorry for the man.
“Are you saying that I am 90-100 percent your son?” John asked softly.
“I am saying that I would like to meet my daughter-in-law and my grandson with his father.” Jack the third said.
“You’re actually my father?” cried John who started bursting in tears.
            “You’re my son”
            “See you soon, dad”
John hung up the phone with mixed emotions. A phone call can change people’s lives for the better or for the worst, and John possibly got both.
