Journal #7- Into-Direct Dialogue

After Robert was released from his job, his best friend, Torrie, invited him to her place to cook his favorite dinner, spaghetti, to show him comfort.
“Thanks for the spaghetti, the comfort, and the support” Robert said.
“It’s not a problem, just want to help a friend get back on their feet,” replied Torrie.
“The spaghetti looks very beautiful, you know how fill a man up with food very well good after I’ve been through a lot recently. Hmm, it’s very symbolic how spaghetti goes perfect with meatballs.”
“Well I guess so, but sometimes they just have to spaghetti and meatballs.”
“Yeah but they’re so perfect together like cookies and milk, bread and butter, and macaroni and cheese.”
“That’s true and all but milk can expire, bread can mold, and cheese can go bad.”
After dinner, Robert offered to clear the plates and cutleries. Torrie had a right eyebrow raised of confusion due to the situation. She didn’t know how to react because she wanted to give him news that would change her life.
“Um Robert, this might be a little awkward, but I have to tell you something.”
“Sure what is it?”
“I have food in the oven but it’s not for you though.”
“How come it’s not for me? I’m going through a bad period of my life and I can’t have more food?!?”
“Calm down Rob, it’s for somebody that helped me. The reason that it’s not for you is because you’re allergic to turkeys.”
“Oh ok then, thanks for your concern.”
“Don’t worry you can take care of it whenever I’m not here.”
“Um sure, whatever that means.”

  1. This is a great subtext scene. It played really well in class and everyone was able to deduce what these characters were really talking about.
    Great work!
